The DEFINE study, presented in the opening session, provided compelling evidence that digital cognitive behavioural therapy can be as effective as traditional face-to-face approaches in managing tinnitus-related distress. Other sessions explored auditory training methods, broadband hearing aid amplification, and innovative tools like the Tinnometer to tailor tinnitus therapies to individual needs.Overall, EFAS 2025 was a remarkable professional and cultural experience.

Weird soil depths in EFAS version 5 data
The selection procedure produced a list of 1,137 calibration stations in 215 different catchments, 406 with 6‑hourly and 731 with daily observed discharge time series. For EFAS 4, the LISFLOOD domain area was slightly extended to include the Jordan catchment. The river network in the Balkans was also improved to better represent physical rivers in the region, with updates to the channels’ geometry reflecting the changes done to the drainage network. Compared to the previous EFAS 3 version, three additional reservoirs were added on the Sava river downstream of Zagreb to better represent the effects of large retention areas.
A scholarship at EFA covers the participation fee and the accommodation for the entire duration of the event. Additionally, scholarship holders receive a daily allowance of 25 Euros per day. This error is now corrected and the data has been rearchived correctly in MARS. The v5.0 pre-release data was removed from the CDS temporarily while this was fixed. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Manuel Monteagudo and the entire Scientific Committee for their dedication, as well as our MCO team, whose efforts were essential to the success of our initiatives. From now on, there will be an annual congress, allowing for poster submissions and extended sessions with free papers. We are seeing a steady increase in submissions each year, confirming our scientific leadership. The Certification Program has also been updated, and starting next year, there will be a second path to certification. Thanks to the collaboration between the Specimen Lab Committee and the Educational Committee, candidates can now take the exam by completing five basic cadaver courses and a Basic Instructional Course over two years.
The GFM product is designed to deliver, in near real-time, critical information on ongoing floods events to users worldwide, including national authorities, emergency units, research centres, decision-makers and other stakeholders. GFM data can be accessed via the EFAS or GloFAS map viewer or using the GFM data portal. The calibration process resulted in 14 new parameter maps over the pan-European EFAS extent, one per calibrated parameter.
EFAS products overview
Overall, EFAS 4 shows a marked improvement in the hydrological performance compared with EFAS 3, with more stations achieving a higher KGE’ score as shown by the cumulative distribution function. About 60% of stations have a KGE’ of 0.75 or higher, against only 40% for EFAS 3 (Figure 5a). Improvements are found over most of the EFAS domain, with the exception of some stations in Scandinavia, Spain and central Europe (Figure 5b).

It looks to me like the old CDS was serving v3 format netCDFs with data encoded in scale/offset form with no compression, and the new CDS is serving v4 netCDFs with compression enabled. Sometimes a bit smaller, and in the case of variables like snowfall or precip where there are lots of zeros, a lot smaller. The environmental benefits of agro-forestry systems are that they provide a diversity of habitats for wildlife and can reduce run-off and soil erosion. Please note the entirety of the hedge can only be claimed once, either claiming EFAH50 twice or EFAH100 once.
For EFAS 4, scores were calculated on river discharge averaged over 24 hours to be comparable to the 24‑hourly simulation of EFAS 3 (also matching the calibration time step of EFAS 3). Note that calculating KGE’s over daily discharge slightly increases the score of EFAS 4. One important aspect of a hydrological model performance evaluation is to use data which have not been used during the calibration exercise, so that the evaluation is a fair analysis of the model behaviour. This is often achieved using a ‘split sample approach’, where the hydrometeorological observational record is split into two independent periods, one used to optimise the parameters through calibration, and one used to evaluate the model behaviour.
Through EFAS, we are dedicated to bridge this gap by advancing accessible, affordable and sustainable hearing care services for all. An issue has been identified with the EFAS sub-region extraction tool, whereby it serves data that is not correctly located on the river network. Any time-varying data (i.e. River discharge in the last 6 or 24 hours, snow depth water equivalent, and volumetric soil moisture) that has been downloaded using this tool from 2018 until now is not located at the correct position on the network when compared to the upstream area.
